Minutes - 28th July 2008

Had a bit of a break away from the computer investigating caves at Cheddar Gorge and sympathising with locals about the demise of the pier at Weston Super Mare. So just catching up with minutes and meetings I've missed. Hopefully we will jiggle the blog about in future and organise it better. Lee-Ann

Transition Hull – 28th July 2008

Additions to last meetings minutes (no.3)
· Lewis suggested a speaking group to be set up, trained and prepared to give Transition presentations.
· Matt Hill suggested a library network to be set up, to get all those dust collecting useful books in circulation.

Up and coming Events
· 11th August, next Transition Hull meeting, Sarah sends apologies for absence, on holiday.
· 1st September - Transition Hull Meeting.
· 21st September – David Longhorn’s Allotment Party.
· 22nd November - FoE Green Faire, Spring Bank Community Centre.
· 30th November, 1 – 2pm Sunday - Tree Planting, Bottom of Stepney Lane.

Where is Transition Hull at the moment?
· We are going to form a governing body.
· We are in the awareness building strand of the Transition Plan.
· Generally, meetings will be fortnightly.
· Establishing who we should contact and how.

What was planned at the meeting?
· Steve Hall is going to plan all this onto a time line.
· Steve Hall to produce communal (I have no word after this on my notes that you asked me to make SH?)
· The Group Sharing Event is going to be a semi-formal invite event, making it more noticeable than the average flyer'd event and so that we are not disguised in amongst the large amounts of junk mail and take-away menu’s.
· One of the aims of the Transition Movement is to find and enhance the transitional element within the existing ethos of the already established groups.
· The Group sharing event is to take place after David’s Allotment Party.
· We can advertise the invitation and event (news papers, radio, posters).
· The invite is for guest +1.
· The Group Sharing Event is a Germinating of the Collective Consciousness, it could be in the form of;
o World Cafe, ten themed tables (i.e. energy, peak oil, food, transport) with an allotted time on each table to exchange on the topic.
o Speed Dating, two minutes to exchange with person opposite your interests and details before moving along to next person.
o And/or Visioning Exercise
· The Group Sharing Event is planned for mid September,
· The Group Sharing Event and locals Film Night are to be separate events.
· The Locals showing is to be before Fresher’s week.
· The student film showing is to be in Fresher’s Week.
· The People and Planet group at Hull University will want to be involves in the Film showings at the University.
· The groups we should contact, who will contact them: on next page [not included]
· ACTION: This list is to be added to by Transitioners and Transitioners to volunteer to contact the relevant or related groups, this list is then to be sent to Steve Hall at

· The list will then be put into order and sent back out for acting upon.

David Longhorn Allotment Picnic Party
· 21st September.
· Bring a dish and a bottle or donation at the gate.
· Excess harvest swap to take place.
· Hillary has volunteered to do the Barbecue.
· Invite Transition Hull immediate related groups and by word of mouth.
· Invite press.

Transition Awareness Generation: Coffee Morning
· This friendly coffee morning/evening (open to suggestions) is to explain Transition Town aims to specific groups and so that they can share their expeiences

Transition Awareness Generation: A Film Showing
· The proposed film to be shown is The End Of Suburbia (72 minutes)
· There is to be two showings (Matt Hill is going to research the hire costs)
o Middleton Hall, Hull University; for local residents.
o Asylum Venue, Hull University; for students
· Invite University Students via posters and flyers within fresher’s week (29th September) to establish Transition Hull as one of their interests.
· Promote film and talk via;
o mail drop
o posters
o radio
o news papers
· At the showing bring in spokes person(s) from other Transition Towns to give a short talk (before or after?)
